RB Leipzig star Timo Werner should be top of Frank Lampard’s transfer wish list, because he has all the attributes that Chelsea require as the type of player who they have missed since Eden Hazard left for Real Madrid.
The German international has been in red-hot form this season, scoring 23 goals in 24 games so far to help his side to the Bundesliga summit ahead of Borussia Monchengladbach, Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund.
The forward recently described his new role as being almost like an offensive midfielder, evident in his attacking output this season.
“I’ve become more versatile under Julian Nagelsmann,” Werner claimed, after bagging a brace against Dortmund and a hat-trick against Monchengladbach.
And The Athletic reckon he perfectly fits Lampard’s brief for a mobile, industrious and intelligent striker, capable of leading Chelsea’s high press.
“RB Leipzig sensation Timo Werner absolutely does tick all Lampard’s boxes and could even play alongside Abraham in certain formations,” wrote Liam Twomey.
“But any January suitor for the coveted 23-year-old will have to reckon with the fact his Bundesliga-leading current club have a real chance to win the title this season, as well as still being alive as the Champions League enters knockout play.”

Werner committed himself to RB Leipzig last summer when he signed a new contract until 2023.
However, the Bundesliga leaders’ CEO Oliver Mintzlaff is aware that the 23-year-old might want to move on to join a bigger club sooner or later.
“I feel the appreciation from him, and he seems to be comfortable here,” Mintzlaff told Kicker.
“I think his agent Karlheinz Förster is also very satisfied that we were so persistent and that we were able to find a solution that works for all parties.
