Chelsea are in the process of finding out whether Timo Werner has a release clause at RB Leipzig, as they consider ways of strengthening their squad forthcoming transfer window.
Alongside Werner, Chelsea are keeping tabs on the likes of Moussa Dembele, Jadon Sancho, Wilfried Zaha, Leon Bailey as well as Samuel Chukwueze.
Werner has been in red-hot form this season, scoring 23 goals in 24 games so far to help his side to the Bundesliga summit ahead of Borussia Monchengladbach, Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund.
The Germany international recently described his new role as being almost like an offensive midfielder, evident in his attacking output this season.
“I’ve become more versatile under Julian Nagelsmann,” Werner claimed, after bagging a brace against Dortmund and a hat-trick against Monchengladbach.
And the Telegraph claim that Chelsea have ramped their interest up by making contact with Leipzig over Werner.
The reports states that there has been confusion over a supposed release clause in the 23-year-old’s contract that has been quoted as low as £25.6m and as high as £51.2m in recent months, which Chelsea have tried to clarify.

Blues scouts have watched Leipzig on several occasions this season and there may well be discussions over the teenager’s future, as he has made only five appearances in total.
Chelsea youngster Ethan Ampadu is on loan with the Bundesliga leaders and the good relationship between the two clubs could help grease the wheels of a potential transfer for Werner.
Werner committed himself to RB Leipzig last summer when he signed a new contract until 2023.
