Marcos Alonso not in Frank Lampard’s plans but Chelsea face replacement battle

Chelsea ’s efforts to land Leicester City left-back Ben Chilwell in the January transfer window could prove fruitless.

The England international is Frank Lampard ’s top choice to step into a position that is becoming an increasing problem for him.

Spaniard Marcos Alonso is not in Lampard’s plans while Emerson has been in and out of the team with injury.

Even when he has been fit Cesar Azpilicueta has often been favoured as starting left-back under Lampard.

Chilwell is the preferred target but signing him in January could become a tough assignment.

The Foxes are known to be willing to negotiate for their players when the time is right but, according to The Athletic , the upcoming window arrives a little too soon.

Brendan Rodgers has got his team playing some brilliant football and they currently sit in second spot in the Premier Leaguer after 20 games.

Chilwell has been a big part of the team’s success this season and potentially weakening the time is not in Leicester’s plans.

Chelsea have also exceeded expectations so far this season after they were hindered by being slapped with a transfer ban.

Lampard was expected to struggle after taking over from Maurizio Sarri but he has been buoyed by the unexpected success of some of his youngsters.

Tammy Abraham, Mason Mount, and Fikayo Tomori, have all been brilliant since returning from loan spells in the Championship and have helped the team into fourth place in the Premier League.
