Everton have sent scouts to keep an eye on former Sunderland star Josh Maja at current club Bordeaux.
The Toffees are on the lookout for new faces to join in January following the appointment of Carlo Ancelotti.
He’s got Cenk Tosun, Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Moise Kean on the books but both strikers could be heading for the Goodison Park exit.
Calvert-Lewin has been linked with Manchester United, while Starsport understands the Toffees are keen to ship out £27m flop Tosun.
Kean has also had a mixed time of it on Merseyside following his summer move from Juventus, and is wanted by clubs back in Serie A.
And Maja could be the man Everton turn to in a bid to bolster the ranks.
That’s after French reporter Ignazio Genuardi revealed on Twitter the club have sent spies to watch Maja in action.
He wrote on Twitter: “#Everton notably supervised #Maja ( #Bordeaux ) during the defeat of December 15 against Strasbourg. Other Premier League residents are also watching the former Sunderland player. #Mercato#FCGB”

The Sun claim Chelsea are also keen on Maja, 21.
Maja joined Bordeaux in January last year after impressing in League One.
He started out with Manchester City’s academy before breaking through at the Stadium of Light.
When grilled about his transfer plans, Ancelotti said this week: “The market is not open yet – it opens tomorrow! There are a lot of rumours. That is normal. Everywhere in the world, it is like this. In Italy, it is the same.
