Josh Grant is close to completing a permanent move to Plymouth Argyle after the defender’s six-month loan ended earlier this week.
The 21-year-old has impressed for Ryan Lowe’s side, who sit ninth in Sky Bet League One, and the Pilgrims manager is keen on offering him a long-term contract.
Grant, from Brixton, joined Chelsea’s academy as an eight year old but has not been close to featuring for the first team at Stamford Bridge. He spent last season at Yeovil Town and is out of contract this summer.
“There is stuff going on with Josh Grant,” Lowe said. “We are just speaking to him now about keeping him as a permanent. We are in dialogue with Chelsea at the moment because he has got six months left.
“The conversations keep going but we are potentially going to sign Josh Grant on a long-term contract. We will just have to wait until all the paperwork is done.”
Luke McCormick is expected to go back out on loan after returning to Cobham from Shrewsbury Town, who terminated the midfielder’s temporary move following just seven first-team appearances.
The 20-year-old had been recommended to the Shrewsbury manager Sam Ricketts by Joe Cole after signing a new three-year deal in the summer. Shrewsbury sit 14th in League One.
Michy Batshuayi could also go out on loan to Aston Villa for the rest of the season following the serious knee injury sustained by Wesley but that move is dependent on Frank Lampard being able to bring in one of his targets. Chelsea have been linked with Timo Werner and Moussa Dembele.
