Aston Villa boss Dean Smith sets out transfer talks over Danny Drinkwater and Michy Batshuayi

Dean Smith will meet with Aston Villa chief executive Christian Purslow and sporting director Jesus Garcia Pitarch ahead of facing Fulham this weekend to discuss his January transfer plans.

Chelsea duo Danny Drinkwater and Michy Batshuayi have been linked with moves to Villa Park this month after loaning Tammy Abraham last season.

BirminghamLive report that the former Brentford boss will sit down for talks over the club’s targets in the transfer window.

In his pre-match press conference prior to a trip to London to take on Fulham in the FA Cup third round Smith addressed the speculation over who Villa could sign in January.

He also revealed the extent of the injury suffered by striker Wesley Moraes in the club’s 2-1 win over Burnley that has led to talk of Batshuayi coming in as cover for the Brazilian.

“Very disappointed for them personally,” said Smith. “Young Wesley, our record signing has come in, awful lot of pressure on his shoulders, made his debut for Brazil this season and was playing really well in the game, scored a good goal and unfortunately for him he is out for the season as well.”

He added: “We’ve just spoken and it’s out for the season, that’s all I need to know to be honest, so I can start planning for the rest of this season.
