Chelsea ’s pursuit of Timo Werner will have to be delayed after the forward decided he does not want to leave Red Bull Leipzig until after Euro 2020.
The Blues have been heavily linked with Werner, with manager Frank Lampard keen to provide competition for top-scorer Tammy Abraham.
Abraham has netted 12 times in the Premier League this season, a figure only surpassed by Jamie Vardy, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Danny Ings, but current backup strikers Michy Batshuayi and Olivier Giroud have only notched one league goal.
Both Batshuayi and Giroud have also been linked with moves away from Stamford Bridge this month, with Giroud a target for Inter Milan and Aston Villa interested in Batshuayi as a replacement for the injured Wesley .
Now that Chelsea’s transfer ban has been lifted, they are looking to spend in January and a forward is high on their list of targets.
Werner has already scored 18 goals for Leipzig this season and has attracted interest from the likes of Manchester United and Liverpool as well.
However, Goal are reporting that the 23-year-old will not leave Germany this month and will only contemplate a move in the summer.

The report states that he wants to win the Bundesliga title with Leipzig, who are currently two points clear of Borussia Monchengladbach and four points clear of Bayern Munich .
He is also hesitant about having to adapt to a new league and team midway through the season and does not want his form to tail off ahead of Germany’s Euro 2020 campaign.
Werner’s stance could now force the Blues to look elsewhere if they do not want to wait until next season but their pursuit of Moussa Dembele also seems unlikely to materialise.
