Chelsea have made a decision over whether to pursue a potential move for England international Jadon Sancho.
The Borussia Dortmund winger is on the Blues’ wish list as Frank Lampard looks at replacements for Willian and Pedro, who are both out of contract at the end of the season.
A swoop for Sancho in this month’s transfer window appears to be off the table, however.
According to football journalist Ian McGarry, Chelsea have been scared off by the Bundesliga club’s asking price.
McGarry told Reach PLC’s Transfer Window Podcast: “I’m reliably informed that they made a formal enquiry to Borussia Dortmund last Thursday with regards to Jadon Sancho.
“They were quoted, in my view, an astronomical fee of €120million and that didn’t include the €50m commission to the player’s agent.
“They have now stepped away from that and said ‘that’s not going to happen’.”
Chelsea are free to make signings in this window following the Court of Arbitration for Sport’s decision to halve the club’s two-window transfer ban.

Lampard’s assistant Jody Morris delivered an update on the Blues’ plans at a press conference on Friday.
He said: “There are a couple of areas we’re looking at, without going into them, but it will all depend on what the movements are within the club as well.
“I’m not as privy to those conversations as the manager is but for sure there is stuff going on behind the scenes. Any movements have to be for the benefit of the club and improve the squad.
“We can’t just let people walk out the door if that means we’re going to be left short somewhere.
