Reece James’ Premier League career already way ahead of schedule as large new contract awaits » Chelsea News

Reece James is close to signing a new contract, it was reported today by the Sun.

The right back has been appearing more regularly in recent weeks after proving time and again that he’s the most dangerous attacking full back in the squad.

The club won’t let this one get away. He will get a healthy new deal, hopefully securing him for a long time to come.

Every player has ups and downs, and indeed earlier this season he was effectively dropped after some weaker games as Frank Lampard tinkered to find the optimum setup at the back.

Now, after Emerson and Marcos Alonso used up all their good faith on the left, Lampard looks to have settled on putting Cesar Azpilicueta there and James on the right.

That should be a nice blend, and if all goes to plan James can be settled in as first choice by the end of the season with 20+ Premier League starts under his belt.

That’s way ahead of schedule by anyone’s standards.
