The Sun are among the papers today linking Chelsea with a move for Lille midfielder Boubakary Soumaré.
We played against him in both our group games in the Champions League against the French team this year, but if you weren’t paying attention, the Frenchman was the smart little central midfielder keeping the ball moving.
Just 20 years old, he’s the latest talent out of Lille’s impressive academy, gradually working his way into the team in the last 12 months.
He’s an all round midfielder, playing more in a defensive role, but also with an eye for a forward pass. WhoScored’s stats have him playing 2 long balls a game, as well as 0.5 key passes. His pass accuracy averages at 89.9%, and he also averages a tackle a game too.
Certainly he looks a talented player, as do so man of those Lille stars. But is central midfield our biggest need right now? We think it’s actually pretty near the bottom of the list.
