Chelsea legend Didier Drogba dubbed Sadio Mane the “new King of Africa” in his latest Instagram post.
The Liverpool forward won the honour for the first time this year, taking it from team-mate Mohamed Salah.
His goals have helped Liverpool to a Champions League title as well as a 15-point gap at the top of the Premier League.
The Reds star has already been hailed by fans for his acceptance speech last night.
Now Drogba, who won the title in 2006 and 2009, has become the latest to praise the forward.
The man who scored 164 goals for the Blues shares a snap of Mane from the event.
And he simply writes: “To the new king of Africa.”
The post has been liked more 180,000 times since it was posted this morning.
Mane’s speech saw him start off with a brilliant admission.
“To be honest, I would love it more to play football than speak,” Mane said.
“Football is my job and I love it.
“But speaking is not.”
Mane laughed to himself before getting a round of applause.
And he continued with thanks to both the Senegal national team and Liverpool.
“I’m really proud to receive this award,” the forward adds.
“It’s a big day for me. I’ve come a long way, from a small village.”
The Senegalese forward won 477 points in the vote for African Footballer of the Year, beating Salah by 152.
Third place was taken by Manchester City star Riyad Mahrez, who scored in the Carabao Cup against Manchester United last night.
