Gedson Fernandes is set to join West Ham from Benfica after the two clubs finally came to an agreement over the terms of a deal.
The Chelsea target is poised to fly to London in the coming days to seal the 18-month loan move.
West Ham have been in negotiations with the Portuguese giants for some time and there has been interest from a host of other clubs, including rivals Chelsea and Everton.
The Hammers initially saw a loan bid with the obligation to sign Fernandes for £33m turned down by Benfica.
Chelsea then raised the stakes as they tabled a similar offer with the fee amounting to as much as £55m.
West Ham have been the favoured destination for Fernandes, though, as he has friends from his youth days at Benfica within the Hammers’ academy.
His mother also lives in London, and to mark Fernandes’ 21st birthday, an agreement for him to play in the Premier League has been reached.
The box-to-box midfielder will play at the London Stadium until June 2020, according to Sky Sports.
David Moyes will be delighted to be getting Gedson Fernandes on board at West Ham
It is said he is likely to now jet over to England’s capital in the coming days.
Fernandes could ultimately make his West Ham debut next weekend when they host Everton, another side who was chasing his services, in the Premier League on Saturday, January 18.
Before that, the Hammers go to Sheffield United tomorrow night (8pm), where Mark Noble, Declan Rice and Robert Snodgrass are expected to form David Moyes’ midfield once again.
