Chelsea zone in on Thomas Lemar as Blues eye cheaper transfer than £80m Zaha

Chelsea have been offered the chance to sign Thomas Lemar from Atletico Madrid for a fraction of the price Wilfried Zaha would cost.

Frank Lampard has been armed with a reported £150m this January after a FIFA ban on transfers was uplifted.

It has seen a multitude of players linked with a Stamford Bridge switch as the Blues look to consolidate their top-four spot in the Premier League .

Among the transfer targets, Lampard wants a striker, a winger, a centre-back and a left-back.

Jadon Sancho has been touted for a move but there is no way Borussia Dortmund will do business in January.

It has led to speculation over another long-term target – Crystal Palace’s Zaha.

But, again, the Eagles are not keen on any business and have quoted their London rivals an £80m price-tag.

Chelsea have no intention of splashing out this amount of cash on one player but have seen their choices limited.

That is until now after the Evening Standard reported that Atletico Madrid have offered the Blues a cheaper alternative.

Wilfried Zaha is looking to leave Crystal Palace during the transfer window

They have told Chelsea they can sign Lemar for £5m on loan, with a potential future fee of around £50m.

That would give Lampard the chance to rate the Frenchman’s credentials in the Premier League before making a decision on his long-term future.

It would also mean that if things don’t work out for the former Monaco man, another raid for Sancho can undergo in the summer.

Thomas Lemar has failed to impress at Atletico

The Evening Standard also report that Lemar is pushing for the move and is keen on signing for Chelsea this January.

However, it remains to be seen whether that feeling is mutual.
