Pulisic, Kovacic, Alonso, Loftus-Cheek – Latest Chelsea injury news ahead of Burnley clash

Chelsea are back in Premier League action this weekend after safely navigating their way past Nottingham Forest in the third round of the FA Cup on Sunday.

Form has been patchy of late for Frank Lampard’s side, with three wins, one draw and three defeats in their last seven Premier League games.

Their home form has been disappointing, and they welcome Sean Dyche’s Burnley side to Stamford Bridge knowing they need three points to maintain their gap to fifth-placed Manchester United in the race for Champions League football next season.

Lampard needs as many players fit and firing as possible, and luckily for him the injury list is fairly short at the moment.

Here we take a look at the latest names on the treatment table ahead of the clash with Burnley.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek

Loftus-Cheek was establishing himself as a key member of Maurizio Sarri’s squad at the end of last season.

However, in the post-season friendly ahead of the Europa League final, Loftus-Cheek suffered the same injury as Hudson-Odoi as he ruptured his Achilles’ tendon.

Loftus-Cheek is working towards a return as soon as possible and has been keeping fans updated with his progress.

“It’s going well!” he told Versus earlier in the season when asked about his recovery. “It’s been a long time and I’ve had a few setbacks as well. It’s never been just a straight path but I’m close now…I’ve been running and moving, I feel I’m right on the edge. I’m close and I can’t wait.”

Lampard however confirmed that the recovery is not going as fast as the club would have hoped. Loftus-Cheek has since posted an encouraging update on social media, showing him doing work outside as he again steps up his recovery.

There is still no set return date for the England international.
