Callum Hudson-Odoi has opened up on the transfer saga that threatened to end his Chelsea career after handing in a transfer request in January 2019.
Rewind a year at Stamford Bridge and matters were very different surrounding one man indeed.
Maurizio Sarri had frustrated fans for months for his refusal to play Hudson-Odoi – at the time an up and coming talent with bundles of skill and trickery.
During a time where the play was deemed boring and rigid, the youngster was seen as someone with the ability to mix it up and get fans off their seats.
Eventually, that frustration trickled down to Hudson-Odoi – who was desperate to leave the club he grew up with.

Bayern Munich took an interest in the Englishman and made three bids – all that were turned down – before Hudson-Odoi handed in a transfer request.
Ultimately, Bayern failed in their pursuit and Sarri left at the end of the season and now the 19-year-old has signed a new contract and has high hopes for the future under Frank Lampard .
But the Wandsworth-born ace, speaking to The Sun , has come clean over that saga of his life and how close he came to ditching his boyhood club.

He said: “I was talking about it with the family and thinking, ‘I just want to play games,’ and at that moment I wasn’t playing enough.
“I wouldn’t say I was close to leaving but it was on my mind. What happened in January happened. But I signed my contract and I’m happy here now – everything is going well.

“It’s been a rollercoaster year. A lot of things have happened which made me learn and think about stuff.
“I just needed to get back, be confident, be myself, score, assist – and show what I can do.”
