Chelsea boss Frank Lampard does not need to sign West Ham defender Issa Diop in the January transfer window.
That is according to former Blues and Hammers goalkeeper Rob Green, who insists the manager already has enough top defenders at the club.
French defender Diop has been linked with a £40m move to Stamford Bridge this month with rivals Tottenham also being linked with making a bid.
Lampard has a reported £150m transfer war chest to spend this month after being boosted by the news that the club have had their transfer ban lifted by FIFA.
But Green reckons that money is better off being spent elsewhere rather than on a centre-half, although he insists Diop is a very talented centre-back.
“I think PSG last season were looking at him,” Green said on BBC Radio 5 Live.
“Big, tall centre-half with pace, good on the ball.
“Who wouldn’t be interested if you’ve got those sorts of credentials? I think it’s an interesting one.

“He’s on the bench tonight, why? We’ve not worked that one out if he’s been that good.
“It’s one that realistically Chelsea, where’s their priorities?
“Are they looking for another centre-half? They’ve already got three good young centre-halves, do they need another one? I don’t know.
“But it’s seemingly got a little bit of legs hasn’t it.”
