Jermaine Jenas on why Reece James should be in Gareth Southgate’s thoughts ahead of Euro 2020

Match of the Day pundit Jermaine Jenas has heaped praise on Chelsea full-back Reece James following the Blues’ 3-0 Premier League win against Burnley.

Goals from Jorginho, Tammy Abraham and Callum Hudson-Odoi secured the three points for Frank Lampard’s men, with James providing an assist for Abraham’s goal which made it 2-0.

James has broken into the first team at Stamford Bridge this season after impressing on loan at Wigan athletic during the 2018/19 campaign. He has made 11 Premier League appearances so far this season.

His performances for the Blues have caught the eye, with Jenas suggesting that the 20-year-old could be an option for Gareth Southgate.

“We’ve obviously got Trent (Alexander-Arnold), Kyle Walker, Trippier, but when I look at him (James), he’s almost a hybrid between them all,” he told Match of the Day.

“He’s got great delivery, he’s got the pace and the power of someone like Kyle Walker, he impresses me every time I see him.

“He doesn’t get into these areas (high) and panic, he’s got great composure. He always seems to create, he’s always available and he’s just playing so well for Chelsea at the minute.

“10 crosses today and that’s what strikers want, that he’s going to be putting the ball where they are attacking it.”

James has two caps at U21 level for England.
