Manchester United reportedly sent scouts to watch Lyon star Moussa Dembele as they continue their pursuit of the Chelsea transfer target.
Both the Red Devils and Chelsea are understood to be intent on signing the Frenchman in the January transfer window.
Lyon remain adamant that the 23-year-old is not going anywhere but speculation about a move continues.
United and Chelsea had scouts watch Dembele in the French team’s win against Brest on Wednesday night, where he netted in the 3-1 win.
And according to French journalist Ignazio Genuardi, United representatives were in attendance to watch him score again in Lyon’s 2-1 win at Bordeaux this weekend.
Genuardi claims that the Manchester side are in regular contact with the £40m-rated player as they look to bring him to Old Trafford this month.
But they know they face competition with Premier League rivals Chelsea, who are looking for another striker to rival Tammy Abraham.
Blues boss Frank Lampard has been buoyed by the news that he can sign players this month after the club’c transfer ban was lifted by FIFA.
