Chelsea news: Frank Lampard’s big test, the Blues’ standout player, QPR and Rangers eye transfer

The January transfer window is now two weeks old and things are looking pretty good for Chelsea.

The Blues are sitting comfortably in the top four in the Premier League, five points clear of Manchester United in fifth and six points behind Leicester City in third.

Frank Lampard’s men claimed all three points at Stamford Bridge on Saturday as Jorginho, Tammy Abraham and Callum Hudson-Odoi were all on target in a 3-0 win against Burnley in west London.

Now, the Blues have a week to prepare for a trip to face Newcastle United at St James’ Park in the Premier League.

Pundit’s praise for James

It was a good performance on the whole from Chelsea as the Blues defeated Burnley on Saturday.

But one man who stood out for the Blues was Reece James, with Frank Lampard, fans and pundits alike heaping praise on the 20-year-old.

His performance earned him a place in BBC pundit Garth Crooks’ team of the week , with the former Tottenham forward explaining his reasons for including him in his side.

“This lad has caught my eye before and I’m not in the least bit surprised he has finally made my team,” Crooks said in his weekly feature for the BBC website.

“He is starting to look like the real deal. Some of you may remember me admonishing him after Chelsea’s defeat against West Ham when Aaron Cresswell got the better of him. The Chelsea youngster seems to have learned a lesson from that experience and is impressive in defence and attack.”
