Napoli ace Dries Mertens has reportedly rejected a move to West Ham – despite his wife being ready to move to London.
Mertens, previously linked with Arsenal and Man Utd , is set to depart Napoli at the end of the season when his contract expires.
Chelsea are also in the race for his signature with the Belgian free to speak to overseas clubs as he eyes a pre-contract agreement on a big-money deal on a free transfer in the summer.
According to reports in Italy, Mertens was approached by the Hammers as David Moyes looks to strengthen his side after returning to the London Stadium.
His wife was said to be keen on the move – but he refused in order to stay at Napoli until June before a likely move to Serie A title challengers Inter Milan in the summer.
In a discussion on Italian TV show Tiki Taka, quoted by FC Inter and others, Carlo Pellegatti said: “From what I know, Mertens goes to Inter in June.”

Sport Mediaset journalist Raffaele Auriemma responded: “Carlo is not mistaken because Mertens recently refused West Ham, even his wife was ready to go to London.
“He wants to stay officially until June to break Hamsik’s record but I know he has spoken with Inter, not him but his entourage.”

Whilst they appear unlikely to land the 33-year-old Belgian international, West Ham are still looking to spend this transfer window.
They appear to have missed out to Tottenham in the race for midfielder Gedson Fernandes, but they are set to keep centre-back Issa Diop after warning off Chelsea and other interesting parties.
