Chelsea fans are hoping Frank Lampard has a plan to bring Didier Drogba back to the club this month – just in time to play Arsenal.
Drogba won four Premier League titles and four FA Cups in his time with the Blues, establishing himself as a fan favourite during his two spells with the club.
The Ivory Coast international always delivered on the big occasions too – bagging 16 goals against Arsenal in 17 matches across six different competitions across his entire career.
And with Chelsea due to play Arsenal on January 21, a tweet from the 41-year-old certainly has Blues fans dreaming of the forward coming out of retirement.
A Chelsea fan account posted a tweet labelling all of Drogba’s achievements with the west London club, branding him the ‘king’.
Drogba has since retweeted the post, commenting: “And the best is yet to come” with a wink emoji.
Of course, Chelsea supporters hope an imminent return in time for the upcoming Arsenal match is now on the cards.
“Knew we were signing a striker this January,” said one fan.
“Super frank bringing drogba out of retirement in time for arsenal,” said another.
“Come back score a hatrick against arsenal and retire once again,” added a third.
Another said: “King Drogba back for the Arsenal game for one more training match?”
“Drogba coming out of retirement just to score against Arsenal again? You love to see it,” said a fifth.
While one Blues supporter had another theory, saying” “Joining Chelsea as a coach?”
Drogba endured two spells a Stamford Bridge and his impact certainly left a lasting impression on the Arsenal defenders he used to terrorise.
William Gallas revealed in 2018 how Philippe Senders would ‘panic’ coming up against Drogba.
