Who is Bruno Guimaraes?
Guimaraes is a 22-year-old midfielder who plays for Brazilian side Athletico Paranaense.
The central midfielder was born in Rio de Janeiro and moved to his current club from Gremio Osasco Audax in May 2017.
Guimaraes made 35 appearances in all competitions during the 2019 season, scoring four goals and providing three assists.
He captained the team on one occasion, wearing the armband in a 1-0 loss against Palmeiras back in June.
He has one cap for Brazil’s U23 team, playing 21 minutes of the team’s 3-2 defeat against Japan back in October.
Portuguese side Benfica are the first to make a move for the 22-year-old.
It was thought that Benfica’s interest had cooled, having recently signed Julian Weigl for €20million, but the Portuguese team are not willing to stop there.
Athletico Paranaense president Mario Celso Petraglia told Portuguese publication O Jogo, as reported by the Metro: “Yes it’s true. Yesterday came the official offer from Benfica to sign Bruno Guimaraes.
“‘Let’s study Benfica’s offer. On Monday we will meet the club board to assess this situation.”
