Edinson Cavani latest: Chelsea sent message about completing £12.5m transfer, Man United stance

Chelsea’s need for striking reinforcements has been evident from their last two Premier League results against Newcastle and Arsenal.

The Blues were beaten at St James’ Park despite dominating possession, before taking a one-goal lead against the 10-men of Arsenal on Tuesday night, and eventually allowing the Gunners to score a late equaliser at Stamford Bridge.

One name that has been touted as a potential solution to Chelsea’s profligacy in front of goal is Edinson Cavani.

The Paris Saint-Germain forward has been heavily linked with a move away, amid interest from Chelsea, Manchester United and Atletico Madrid, with the Uruguayan international out of contract in the summer in the French capital.

Here’s everything we know about the future of Cavani, and how the story has developed.

Chelsea join United in race for Cavani

Chelsea and Manchester United have both reportedly made contact with Edinson Cavani about a free transfer at the end of the season.

The striker – who turns 33 in February – is coming to the end of his Paris Saint-Germain deal, and has apparently agreed terms on a potential move to Atletico Madrid.

However, L’Equipe report that Cavani is yet to sign the deal, and United have made initial contact with the striker’s representatives, while Chelsea are said to have made an opening formal enquiry.

Cavani is said to have a meeting with PSG sporting director Leonardo coming up, and could even leave the club this month depending on PSG’s flexibility and the offers they receive.
