Billy Gilmour insists that Chelsea’s youngsters have gained confidence this season from being involved with the first team under Frank Lampard.
The Chelsea head coach has given game time to several youngsters during the course of the season in various competitions, with Gilmour among them.
The Scottish teenager made his fifth appearance of the season for the Blues at first team level as he came off the bench in the 2-1 win against Hull City in the FA Cup fourth round, with the 18-year-old opening up on the words of advice Lampard gave him at the KCOM Stadium.
But Gilmour is not the only young player who has featured at first team level for the Blues during Lampard’s time in charge, with the likes of Tariq Lamptey, Marc Guehi and Ian Maatsen also given some minutes by the Chelsea head coach.

And Gilmour believes that has helped Chelsea’s U23 side stay unbeaten so far this season in Premier League 2, with the Blues currently top of the table, three points ahead of Leicester City in second, with Derby County a point further back and Arsenal in fourth currently trailing Chelsea by six points.
“Yeah, it gives everyone a massive boost,” he said, speaking to Chelsea TV.
“It gives you a lot of confidence when you see how the U23s are doing, top of the league, and you see the amount of opportunities we are getting here round the first team.
“We are keeping our standards high when we come back from the first team, so it has been really good.
The win at Hull was Gilmour’s first taste of the FA Cup for Chelsea, and his first appearance for the Blues away from home, having only featured at Stamford Bridge in the Carabao Cup and Premier League prior to the clash.
