Terreur wrote on Twitter this morning: “Chelsea and Dries Mertens. #cfc”.

Underneath that sentence, he also posted a GIF of someone throwing a dart and missing the board completely – suggesting Lampard and co have failed in their attempts to prise Mertens away from Naples.

Blues fans are absolutely devastated at Terreur’s cryptic tweet, with one bemoaning their move for the player “a complete waste of time”.

Mertens’s current Napoli contract only runs until the summer, meaning Chelsea could try and negotiate a free move for the player which would go through at the end of the season.

Certain reports have suggested Inter Milan could be in the running for the forward, too, but Terreur has also played down their chances.
