Clinton Morrison left red-faced after insisting Olivier Giroud will “100%” join Spurs

Sky Sports pundit Clinton Morrison has been left red-faced on transfer deadline day after Chelsea boss Frank Lampard confirmed Olivier Giroud will not be joining Tottenham.

Amid reports linking Blues striker Giroud, 33, with a switch across London before tonight’s 11pm deadline, Morrison put his neck on the line by boldly predicting the transfer “will 100 per cent happen”.

“I think they’ve had an alright window,” he said about Spurs on Sky Sports News .

“I think if they can get a striker in it would be a good window.

“I think Olivier Giroud would be a good signing for Tottenham.

“He knows the Premier League, he can score goals, he’ll have a point to prove, obviously he’s not playing games at Chelsea, he’s got the Euros coming up for France in the summer, he’s their main striker.

“He needs to be playing football matches, Olivier Giroud is too good to be sitting in the stands, he should be playing.

“So I think for Tottenham it would be a really good signing, getting balls into the box and he scores goals.

“It’s a no-brainer for me so I think that could happen.

“In actual fact I’m going to say it’s going to 100 per cent happen. There you go. You heard it from me first.”

Unfortunately for Morrison, though, Lampard has denied reports Giroud will leave Stamford Bridge today.

“The window is probably 95 per cent shut for us,” he said at his pre-match press conference ahead of Chelsea’s trip to Leicester tomorrow.

“The answer will be no to most of the players you are saying [could come in]. There are a few hours left but it looks like there will be no movement on both ins and outs.
