Boubakary Soumare transfer latest: Player rejects Chelsea and Liverpool, Newcastle offer £45m

Boubakary Soumare remains a Lille player following the closure of the January transfer window.

There was plenty of interest in the midfielder during the window, with much of it coming from the Premier League.

Soumare was linked with Chelsea, Tottenham, Arsenal and Manchester United during January, while Newcastle made a bid for his services too.

But he turned down all advances in order to remain in Ligue Un. Will he come to the Premier League in the future though?

Mourinho’s interest

Lille chief Gerard Lopez has admitted that Jose Mourinho is interested in signing Boubakary Soumare.

“Soumare? It is true that there are many interested,” Lopez told Canal+. “From Spain, from Italy…

“The interest of Jose Mourinho? I know he likes him very much.

“This is not the priority – there are five, six clubs that are interested in him.

“Afterwards, he must also be interested in the club, so we will see.”

Soumare is reportedly valued by Lille at around €40million (£33.9million), and they could allow him to leave in January.

Real Madrid eye Soumare

According to Voix du Nord, Real Madrid are making opening moves to try and convince Soumare to make the switch to La Liga.

Manchester United, Spurs, Napoli, Valencia and Wolves are all said to be tracking his progress, but if Madrid are to enter the race, that could rule a number of those sides out of the running.

However, Soumare is apparently attracted to a move to the Premier League, but if the paper is to be believed, Lille will be hoping for €50m (£42m) to €60m (£51m) to allow the midfielder to leave.
