Chelsea have a big few months ahead.
With Frank Lampard’s side still in the battle for a top four finish in the Premier League and in the last 16 of both the Champions League and the FA Cup, there is plenty for the Blues to play for in the run-in.
But how Chelsea fare over the next few months could have a big impact on what Lampard is and isn’t able to do in the transfer market this summer.
For example, if the Blues miss out on Champions League qualification next season, it could have a negative impact on the calibre of players they are able to attract.

That could lead to Chelsea needing to sell some players from the squad to raise funds for a summer overhaul. Lampard has already put his own stamp on the squad that he inherited when he replaced Maurizio Sari, adding young players to forge an identity.
But will he be able to fully shape the team how he wished?

Lampard has made it clear that Alonso is no longer the first-choice left-back at the club, and has gone as far as moving Cesar Azpilicueta to the left side of defence, with Reece James coming in at right-back.

The 29-year-old signed a new deal late in 2018 that runs until 2023, but the defender could still represent a good deal for a number of clubs across Europe, and there would likely be interest should Chelsea decide to sell.
The defender has been on a number of loans since joining Chelsea from New York Red Bulls in 2016.
