Kepa, Kenedy and the squad overhaul Chelsea need this summer to challenge Liverpool and Man City

It was a disappointing January transfer window for Chelsea, with no new signings made to bolster Frank Lampard’s first team squad.

The Blues are currently sitting fourth in the Premier League table, as they look to try and secure a place in the Champions League next season.

Chelsea are four points ahead of London rivals Tottenham in fifth, five points ahead of Sheffield United in sixth and six points ahead of Manchester United and Wolves.

However, Chelsea’s results have been up and down in recent months, with the home form a particular problem for the Blues, having lost at Stamford Bridge against West Ham, Bournemouth and Southampton.

As such, Chelsea are in a battle to hold on to fourth spot, with Leicester City in third currently eight points ahead of Chelsea.

The Blues were able to sign players in January, after their transfer ban was reduced following an appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

But while they were linked with a number of players, they did not make any big signings, with 16-year-old Bryan Fiabema the only arrival in January.

As such, Lampard will have to wait until the summer to make some changes.

“I know and I feel where we need strengthening, not just in January, it is a difficult window for us,” he said.

“What this season has given us and continues to give us is answers on the pitch and in areas where I think we can get better and that’s for me to get right, I suppose for us, but not so much in this window.”

Several players within the Blues’ squad have also been linked with moves away, with Olivier Giroud, Marcos Alonso and Michy Batshuayi among the stars to have been interesting other clubs.
