Chelsea news: Billy Gilmour’s new role, Dembele caution, safe standing update, Man United squad

Chelsea are among a number of Premier League clubs enjoying a mid-season break ahead of the final part of the 2019/20 season.

The break is the first time that the league has taken the decision to give players and fans a rest after what has been a busy festive period and start to 2020.

The Blues may be grateful for the extra preparation time, especially given that they face three crucial home games when they return to action.

Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur and Bayern Munich all visit Stamford Bridge in both the league and Champions League over the next two weeks, and it is three games that could define the Blues’ season as they look to hold onto a top four place.

The teenager was told by Blues head coach Frank Lampard that he would be forming part of the senior squad moving forward following the 2-2 draw with Leicester City earlier this month.

Gilmour travelled with the Chelsea squad to the King Power Stadium, but did not feature against the Foxes and was not involved in the matchday squad of 18.

But he has made five appearances for Chelsea’s first team so far this season, with his Premier League debut coming in the 2-2 draw with Sheffield United at Stamford Bridge back in August.

Chelsea and Manchester United have both been urged to avoid signing Moussa Dembele this summer.

The striker was said to be on both club’s wishlist in the January transfer window, though Frank Lampard denied that the Blues were planning a move for the 23-year-old.
