Hakim Ziyech gives Frank Lampard his Eden Hazard successor, a new Cesc Fabregas and so much more

Frank Lampard’s needs are not inconsiderable when it comes to the transfer market.

While he has done well to make the most out of a new generation of talent coming up from the Chelsea academy system the gaps in the squad are becoming all too clear to see.

To take the next step the Blues must add some real quality to fill these holes and build upon the team structure that is now in place.

Jadon Sancho is the headline act when it comes to summer transfer rumours for Chelsea. Ben Chilwell, left-back for Leicester City, is another name that has become a regular link with the west London club.

However, it is Ajax midfielder Hakim Ziyech who could be the first senior signing of the Lampard era to be confirmed if claims over a £38million deal prove to be correct.

It has been a similar story with Mason Mount. Last season, he was one of Lampard’s bright sparks at Derby County – a prodigious attacking midfielder with the skill and intelligence to hurt Championship teams in the final third.

He too has struggled to maintain his best form, however, as was the case last year too. That is no criticism of the 21-year-old. Young players need rest and rotation too.
