Hakim Ziyech’s transfer to Chelsea has been basically confirmed by Ajax boss Erik ten Hag.
The Morocco international was made a top target by Frank Lampard in January but a deal could not be pulled off.
Ajax insisted that their main man would not be leaving at a time when they are in three competitions.
But a deal has been agreed and Starsport understands that a fee of around £38m has been signed off by Chelsea chiefs.
It will be Lampard’s first signing as Blues boss but the move will not go through until the summer, with the transfer window closed.
Chelsea moved in to secure the transfer soon after the January window shut.
The club’s board are keen to convince Lampard that he will be backed in the market after being disappointed in the winter.
And the deal has basically been confirmed by Ajax coach Ten Hag, who admitted he was happy Ziyech hung around for as long as he did.
“Ziyech to Chelsea? A transfer was coming, we expected it to happen,” the coach told Dutch TV channel FOX Sports.
“And I actually already expected this one or two years earlier.
Erik ten Hag has admitted Hakim Ziyech is on his way out
“And each time it was: ‘Wow, he stayed again’. We are just happy that we will still have him until the end of the season.”
Chelsea have made a move for a winger a top priority with Pedro and Willian likely to depart in the summer.
The duo will see their contracts expire in the summer and there are no plans to renew at this stage.
Hakim Ziyech is a top target of Frank Lampard’s at Chelsea
It follows a disappointing January transfer window that saw the Blues linked with a number of stars but ultimately ended up with nothing.
Moussa Dembele of Lyon, Bournemouth’s Nathan Ake and RB Leipzig star Timo Werner had all been rumoured with a Stamford Bridge switch.
But fans are over the moon to see reports of Ziyech join, especially after the damage he did earlier this season…
