Jadon Sancho to Chelsea: Winger to leave Dortmund, Man United interest, £10.8m replacement

The January transfer window is a thing of the past, but that doesn’t stop speculation over who may be on the move once the 2019/2020 season is over.

Chelsea failed to add any players to their squad over the last month, in what proved to be a frustrating window for Frank Lampard as he looked to add options in attack.

One of the players heavily linked with a move to Stamford Bridge was Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho.

The England international is said to be one of the Blues’ top targets during the summer window where business may be easier to do for Chelsea – but they will face strong competition to seal his signature, with the likes of Manchester United, Manchester City and more said to be considering bids for the attacker.

So could a summer move be on the cards for the 19-year-old?

Here’s what we know about his future so far.

Dortmund issues

He may be one of the star men for Dortmund, but Sancho has had his issues at the club this season.

Sancho was substituted in Dortmund’s 4-0 defeat at Bayern Munich in November, with Lucien Favre admitting the winger’s performance was “not good enough”.

After returning late from Three Lions duty, Sancho was also dropped and fined, and publicly criticised by sporting director Michael Zorc and as well as Favre.

According to The Athletic, the sequence of events left the teenager feeling ‘humiliated’, ‘scapegoated’ and ‘unprotected’, which led to increased speculation over his future.

However, he has been in superb form since returning to the team.

Nevertheless, allowing the 19-year-old to leave would almost certainly be of financial reward for the Bundesliga outfit, and while a January switch is unlikely, it is understood that the club could be willing to allow him leave in the summer.
