The Arsenal player who ruined Hakim Ziyech’s dream transfer amid Chelsea and Man United interest

Chelsea are ready to make a move for Ajax midfielder Hakim Ziyech in the summer transfer window, according to reports.

The Telegraph claim that the Blues had an approach for Ziyech rejected in January, but plan to return at the end of the season with a fresh bid.

The report also claims Chelsea boss Frank Lampard was frustrated that the Blues could not get a deal for the Moroccan over the line over month, but the club are ready to make a renewed effort, with a reported £150million transfer kitty to spend.

Manchester United and Arsenal are also reportedly interested in the playmaker, whose impressive performances helped Ajax reach last season’s Champions League semi-final.

The Dutch side’s director of football and former Arsenal winger Marc Overmars previously spoke about Ziyech’s future, and claims the midfielder could have moved to the Emirates had the Gunners taken his advice.

Overmars said he advised Arsenal to sell Mesut Ozil and sign Ziyech, but he claims his former club ‘didn’t listen’ to him.

“I am a little surprised that things are still so quiet around Hakim,” Overmars said, as per  AD.

“I think he has played better every year and his statistics are exceptionally good. Many clubs are increasingly looking at that.

“They look more at the numbers than at what he shows and what is happening around him.

“I think Hakim is better than Mesut Ozil. I would say: sell it and you will get Hakim for half.

“But they didn’t listen to me, haha. So it could just be that he stays with Ajax.”

There may be nobody as frustrated as  Ziyech at this move not materialising as eagle-eyed fans on social media, who found an old video of the attacking midfielder taking part in a Q&A with former teammate Justin Kluivert.

On the clip, he revealed that it was his ‘dream’ to play for Arsenal.
