Rafael van der Vaart explains why Frank Lampard will get the best out of Hakim Ziyech at Chelsea

Former Tottenham midfielder Rafael van der Vaart believes that Frank Lampard will get the best out of Hakim Ziyech when he moves from Ajax to Chelsea this summer.

Both clubs confirmed today that a £33.5m agreement is in place for the Morocco international to move to Stamford Bridge at the end of the season, where he will become a Chelsea player at the start of July.

In a statement on the official club website, Chelsea wrote: “Chelsea Football Club has reached an agreement with Ajax to sign Hakim Ziyech this summer.

“The move is subject to the player agreeing personal terms and he will remain at the Dutch club for the rest of this season.”

The move represents Frank Lampard’s first piece of business since his arrival at the club last year, having been restricted by a transfer ban in the summer and suffering a frustrating time during the January transfer window.

Ziyech’s arrival should wipe away those irritations though and Van der Vaart, who started his career at Ajax, believes Lampard will help Ziyech to shine.

Posting on social media, he wrote: “Wonderful player and great lad. With the right coach, Ziyech is a player who would contribute big time to many top teams in Europe.

“I believe Frank Lampard proved so far he understands creative players and understands entertaining yet effective football.”

Ziyech has impressed in Eredivisie this season, scoring six goals and contributing 12 assists in 18 Eredivisie matches, as the Amsterdam club push to defend their league title.
