Former Liverpool midfielder Jason McAteer has said that Chelsea would be the perfect fit for former Reds star Philippe Coutinho.
The Brazilian left Anfield in January 2018, joining La Liga giants Barcelona in a deal worth £142 million. The move however hasn’t quite worked out how both parties would have hoped and Coutinho is spending the 2019/21 season playing on loan at Bundesliga club Bayern Munich.
The 27-year-old scored 54 goals and provided 45 assists in 201 midfield appearances during his time at Liverpool.
He has seven goals and eight assists in 27 goals this season, but has been linked with a summer move away from the Nou Camp, with a number of clubs said to be interested in taking the player.

Speaking to the Racing Post, McAteer has said that moving to Chelsea under Frank Lampard would be a good decision for Coutinho.
“Coutinho served a purpose at Liverpool and was a great player for a period of time – but that time has gone. Selling him was a superb piece of business for the club,” he said.
“He would still grace the top clubs in Europe, as he’s showed at Bayern Munich where he’s done okay – but he needs to be the centre of attention. That wasn’t the case at Liverpool and certainly wasn’t the case at Barcelona.
“I could see Philippe Coutinho slotting in perfectly at Chelsea, where Frank Lampard is doing unbelievable things trying to reboot the club using a lot of young talent bedding in alongside some experienced stars.
“Coutinho would feel really comfortable in the number ten role at Stamford Bridge with the protection of N’Golo Kante and Jorginho and an array of young frontmen around him who would thrive working off him.”
The Blues have already made a move ahead of the summer transfer window, with Hakim Ziyech set to join from Ajax when the window opens.
