What happened to Hakim Ziyech on his first Ajax outing since confirmed £33.4m Chelsea transfer

Chelsea made the headlines this week after agreeing a deal to sign Hakim Ziyech in the summer transfer window.

The 27-year-old will officially join up with his new teammates at Stamford Bridge on July 1, 2020 after the Blues agreed a £33.4m deal with Ajax, which could rise to a maximum of €44m (£36.7m).

But for the remainder of the season, Ziyech is an Ajax player as he looks to win another league title as well as denying Arsenal and Manchester United in the Europa League before reporting for pre-season training at Cobham.

It’s not clear as to if the reason for Ziyech’s withdrawal was injury related.

But given he has only just returned to action following the spell on the treatment table, it would appear that he’s just being eased back to full fitness which is good news for his new club.

“I know his qualities,” he told Chelseafc.com. “He’s a player we hope can bring creativity.

“He first came to my attention watching him play in Ajax’s Champions League run last year and I thought he was one of their standout players, particularly in the games against Tottenham.
