A new study has revealed that top Premier League footballers can buy 400 average UK homes outright every single year.

Footy100, created by OnlineMortageAdvisor, has detailed shocking results about the extent of wealth which some of the world’s best players possess.

The tool highlights the wealth disparity between the everyday person and top earning footballers by also allowing users to calculate how long it will take to pay off a footballer’s mortgage.

Whilst only a small number of footballers will need to secure a mortgage, it would take 25,000 years for someone on the average UK salary to be able to afford a deposit in their price range.

As the highest earning player in the world, Barcelona’s Lionel Messi can afford 412 average UK houses a year with his £70million annual salary.

This is based on the average UK home costing just under £170,000.

On a shorter scale, this amounts to 34 houses a month or 8.5 per week.

In the Premier League,  David De Gea is modest by comparison annual salary of £19.5million would allow him to purchase seven houses a month and 115 a year.

When earnings from endorsements alone are considered, the name a top of the list of highest earning players changes.

Perhaps ironically, Messi is replaced by Cristiano Ronaldo, who takes home £50million a year combined from wages and endorsements.

This would allow the Portugal and Juventus star to buy 294 average UK homes per annum.
