Hello, and welcome to football.london’s live coverage of Frank Lampard’s press conference following the Champions League Round of 16 first leg between Chelsea and Bayern Munich at Stamford Bridge.
The manager struck somewhat of a surprise in his team selection, picking an unchanged lineup from the team that beat Spurs 2-1 at the weekend, with Olivier Giroud continuing up front and Willy Caballero maintaining his position ahead of Kepa Arrizabalaga in goal.
Bayern had the better chances in an end-to-end first half, with Caballero called upon on a number of occasions to smother or block the ball at Robert Lewandowski’s feet.
It was all square at the break, but five mad minutes turned the tie in Bayern’s favour.
Jorginho picked up a booking for dissent that will rule him out of the second leg with a suspension.
And then Serge Gnabry scored twice in the space of three minutes to give the Bundesliga giants a commanding lead ahead of the second leg.
Lampard made some attacking changes to try and give his side a foothold heading into the return leg, but the tie is now all but out of sight following Lewandowski’s goal with 15 minutes to go.
And things went from bad to worse in the final 10 minutes as Marcos Alonso was shown a red card following a VAR check for an off-the-ball incident with Lewandowski.
