Rio Ferdinand believes it is vitally important that Frank Lampard adds a forward to his Chelsea ranks this summer.
The Blues failed to land any of their January targets with Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho and Red Bull Leipzig’s Timo Werner not being available until the summer.
While Lyon repeatedly ruled out selling Moussa Dembele and Crystal Palace’s valuation of winger Wilfried Zaha was reportedly deemed too high.
Chelsea have already made their first signing of the upcoming 2020 summer transfer window, after confirming that Ajax playmaker Hakim Ziyech will move to Stamford Bridge for a fee in the region of £37million.

The Moroccan midfielder has also agreed personal terms with the Blues ahead of the summer transfer, with the club confirming that he has signed a five-year deal with Frank Lampard’s side.
But Ferdinand believes it is important that Lampard adds another striker to his ranks to offer Tammy Abraham some much needed support.
“He has got to dip into the transfer market and start making some waves there,” the former Manchester United man told BT Sport.
“Up front. They have got Tammy Abraham who does and has been scoring goals. He’s young. He needs someone else in there that is going to come in and take over that responsibility as well – and add goals.”
Abraham has been the club’s first choice striker since Lampard’s arrival, with Michy Batshuayi filling in as back-up until recently.
His performance in the 2-0 loss against Manchester United opened the door for Olivier Giroud, who scored as he was picked to start the London derby against Tottenham.
