Chelsea linked to £42m move for Ligue 1 star as Frank Lampard eyes transfer window overhaul

Chelsea are reportedly ready to make a summer move for Lyon star Houssem Aouar after already trying up a deal to sign Hakim Ziyech from Ajax.

The Blues are expected to be active in the upcoming transfer window as Frank Lampard attempts to mould the team following his first year at the club – in which no new players were added to the squad.

Chelsea are said to be battling Juventus to sign the 21-year-old midfielder, and are keen on forcing through a deal in a bid to beat the Serie A side.

According to Tuttomercatoweb, Chelsea have already been in touch with Lyon about a move, which would apparently cost around the €50million (£42million) mark.

Lampard was unable to sign any players in his first transfer window as Chelsea boss due to their transfer ban – though Mateo Kovacic was allowed to make his loan move from Real Madrid permanent.

And though their ban was overturned by the Court of Abritration for Sport in time to make January additions, no players arrived for the second half of the season.

Having been unable to bring in players for over a year, Chelsea will likely have considerable funds to back Lampard in the summer.

And an expensive move for Aouar would see a move for a player who has also been linked with the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City – as well as Juve – in the build up to the January transfer window.

The Italian giants are already well-stocked in midfield, with the likes of Miralem Pjanic, Adrien Rabiot, Aaron Ramsey and Blaise Matuidi competing for places.

Aouar’s current contract runs until 2023, so a large bid would likely be needed to make Lyon consider selling the young star.
