Frank Lampard’s options in central midfield are going to be stretched in the next couple of weeks.
N’Golo Kante has missed the last three games – including this afternoon’s Premier League clash against Bournemouth – because of injury and faces a race against time to be fit for the Champions League round of 16 second leg with Bayern Munich on March 18.
Two players already ruled out of the trip to the Allianz Arena are Jorginho and Marcos Alonso.

The latter saw given his marching orders for lashing out at Robert Lewandowski, while the Italy international talked himself into a yellow card which means he’s suspended for the return leg.
And that’s not the only game Jorginho will miss because of a lack of discipline.
In the 18th minute of the Blues’ game against the Cherries, the midfielder was shown a yellow card for a foul on Philip Billing.
That’s his 10th caution in the Premier League this season which means he’s facing a two game ban.
But with Chelsea in FA Cup action against Liverpool in midweek, he is free to face the current runaway Premier League leaders at Stamford Bridge.
Although he will miss the next two league games against Everton and Aston Villa.
Interestingly, given the scheduling Jorginho won’t feature in Chelsea’s next three games in succession.

Bayern Munich (a) March 18, Champions League
With Jorginho facing a suspension, it could open the door for two players in the squad.
Ruben Loftus-Cheek has previously spoken of his desire to play as a box-to-box midfielder for club and country, but is yet to start a senior game this season following a spell on the sidelines through injury.
