Tammy Abraham has been leading the line at Stamford Bridge this season but lacks experience and has been playing through the pain barrier.
He is currently sidelined with an ankle injury indefinitely and it has left the likes of Olivier Giroud and Michy Batshuayi as Frank Lampard’s only options.
The duo have hardly impressed this season, netting seven goals between them.
And Lampard has made a new striker imperative in the summer.
Starsport understands that their search has seen them eye up Gent star David, who is also courting the attention of a number of other clubs.
Chelsea had a scout in the stands to watch the 20-year-old score against Roma as the Belgian club were knocked out of the Europa League .
David has been leading the goalscoring charts in the Jupiler League, netting 18 in 25 appearances.

The Reds have a number of targets in mind including Timo Werner but David is also on the radar.
Manchester United are in the race, too, while the likes of Tottenham , Aston Villa and Leicester .
Meanwhile, Lampard is expected to clear out a number of players this summer as he looks to imprint his own stamp on the side.
Several stars will see their contracts expire including the likes of Giroud, Willian and Pedro.
