Jamie Carragher and Cesc Fabregas assess Billy Gilmour display for Chelsea vs Liverpool

Billy Gilmour took his chance to show Frank Lampard he is ready for first-team football at Chelsea last night.

The 18-year-old midfielder ran the game against Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool at Stamford Bridge.

He played the full 90 minutes and was far from intimidated going up against Fabinho in the middle of the park.

Gilmour rose to the challenge and helped Frank Lampard’s side secure their place in the FA Cup quarter-final draw.

Following the 2-0 victory in west London, former Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas reacted to the academy talent’s performance.

On Twitter, one fan asked: “@cesc4official thoughts on billy today, mate?”

And another asked the former Blues star: “@cesc4official did you see what your boy Gilmour did tonight? Thanks for being an inspiration for him and remember you will forever be a blue #KTBFFH”

Fabregas said: “When you have the quality but also the desire, the work ethic and the intelligence, then is when you can see real potential in a young player. He has all of that.”
