‘Laughing stock’ – Arsenal and Chelsea fans troll Jose Mourinho after Tottenham’s FA Cup exit

Tottenham Hotspur were knocked out of the FA Cup on penalties by Norwich City, much to the delight of rival supporters across the Premier League.

Goals from Jan Vertonghen and Josip Drmic saw the game finish 1-1 after 90 minutes and extra-time, and it was the visitors who kept their cool from the spot to progress to the FA Cup quarter-finals.

The defeat was particularly galling for Spurs, given the competition’s status as a realistic chance of silverware this season. Tottenham must overturn a one goal deficit in their Champions League last-16 tie against RB Leipzig, while they sit 7th in the league table and a real battle to finish in the top four.

And the manner of their cup exit to relegation-threatened Norwich was not lost upon supporters from Spurs’ London rivals.

Arsenal and Chelsea fans both took to social media after the match, with many choosing to mock Spurs boss Jose Mourinho’s misfortunes.

One fan wrote: ‘I’ve just seen the results now and I can now finally conclude that Jose Mourinho is finished as a coach,’ while another posted: ‘Laughing stock.’

Speaking after the game, Spurs boss Mourinho refused to blame his players for the cup exit.

“That’s football. That’s football,” he told reporters.

“I think the team defended very well today. We were very solid. Very compact. Even in great difficulties, I think the boys they were quite solid in relation to the qualities they have. A clean sheet was very close. The game was controlled. Of course I had, and sometimes people don’t understand my decisions, but they don’t know what is going on, Lucas and Bergwijn they told me ‘out immediately because I am very close to being injured’.

“So I had to take them out in a moment where the result is 1-0 and there is always a risk of happening what happened.
