UEFA set to back new ‘summer Champions League’
UEFA are poised to back a ‘summer Champions League’ to start next year in a move which could impact Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham.
The football governing body are escalating their battle with FIFA over the international calendar as they endorse the idea of essentially expanding the International Champions Cup.
MailOnline are reporting that ‘several of the Premier League’s top clubs’ have backed the idea and want to be involved.
It’s said that the pre-season competition would fight for attention with the Club World Cup, which will be brought forward to June and July in 2021 and played in Shanghai, China.
How many points Chelsea need to seal top-four finish
Chelsea are still in the driving seat for a top-four finish in the Premier League this season.
The Blues maintained their three-point lead over Manchester United after both teams drew against Bournemouth and Everton respectively last weekend.
Frank Lampard’s side are next in action on Sunday when they welcome the Toffees to Stamford Bridge, with top-four rivals effectively from fifth-placed United all the way down to Arsenal in 10th all in action this weekend.
