Charlton boss makes admission about Chelsea youngster Conor Gallagher after Swansea loan move

Charlton Athletic boss Lee Bowyer has admitted that the Addicks have found it ‘impossible’ to replace Chelsea loanee Conor Gallagher since he left the club during the January transfer window.

The midfielder joined Charlton on loan in the summer and made 26 appearances for the club, scoring six goals and providing four assists.

After impressing at the Valley, Gallagher was recalled by Chelsea and immediately loaned back out to playoff chasing Swansea City, where he has gone onto provide five assists in his nine appearances so far.

Since the midfielder’s departure, Charlton have won just three games, losing five. A 4-0 loss to Huddersfield came in their last outing before Saturday’s game against Middlesbrough.

“If you think what he brought us in that first half of the season. He brought us energy, fight, determination and goals.

“To take that out, it’s been difficult to replace with the budget we have to work with. We were lucky to get him. A jewel like that, you have to be very very lucky, and we’re not that lucky unfortunately.”

Gallagher is yet to make his first team debut for Chelsea, but is highly rated at Stamford Bridge and will be looking to follow in the footsteps of the likes of Mason Mount and Fikayo Tomori.
