Real Madrid and Barcelona in transfer battle over Chelsea’s Billy Gilmour

Real Madrid and Barcelona are set to go head to head in the summer over the signing Billy Gilmour.

The Chelsea starlet is the latest youngster off the conveyor belt at Cobham in a season full of youth at Stamford Bridge.

Frank Lampard has opted to utilise the talents of the academy in his first year in charge in west London.

The likes of Mason Mount, Tammy Abraham, Fikayo Tomori, Reece James and Callum Hudson-Odoi have taken on more advanced squad roles.

Gilmour could be the latest after being promoted to the first-team last month.

And his performance on Tuesday night in the FA Cup had fans and pundits alike drooling.

The 18-year-old was the man of the match against Liverpool in a 2-0 result at Stamford Bridge.

It was just the first time the youngster made a full 90 minutes appearance for the Blues.

But it has alerted the likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona , according to El Desmarque , though Manchester City are also interested in him.

Gilmour joined Chelsea from Rangers in 2017 but interest in him has gone back as far as 2016.

The teenager signed a four-year contract in September last year and Lampard has outlined big plans for the starlet.

“I’ve got absolute trust in Billy,” Lampard said.

“I remember when he first came in against Sheffield United, we drew the game and people questioned this kid who looks like a 15-year-old. I remember someone individually saying that to me.

“But I’ve no problem with him because if he’s small in stature he’s huge in personality, and also huge in talent.
