Jermaine Jenas explains how Chelsea trio Mount, Gilmour and Barkley dominated vs Everton

Jermaine Jenas has heaped praise on Chelsea’s midfield trio following the 4-0 win over Everton.

With N’Golo Kante, Jorginho and Mateo Kovacic all unavailable due to injury or suspension, Blues head coach went for a very attack minded midfield of Ross Barkley, Billy Gilmour and Mason Mount against the Toffees.

And his bold selection paid off as the west London outfit cruised to a second victory in the space of five days against a team from Merseyside.

Mount scored his first Premier League goal since December, Barkley silenced the Everton boo-boys with an impressive display, while Gilmour received most of the plaudits on his full league debut.

However, Jenas was impressed with the trio equally and he explained how they managed to get the better of the Everton midfield.

“That young Chelsea midfielder absolutely bossed it,” Jenas said on Match of the Day 2. “They were fantastic today.

“Gilmour, Mount and Barkley created a triangle throughout the whole game.

“They were always looking for the space in behind the Everton midfield and it was always on more often than not.

“Gilmour was always the player with the space and Mason Mount provided the clever running. The finish was just so natural for him on the swivel.

“It was really easy at times for them as well because Everton were quite pathetic in terms of their application but you have still got to get it done.

“Billy Gilmour doesn’t like taking the easy option and he likes to play forward.

“And when you also have players around Giroud that’s when he is effective and he found Ross Barkley for the second goal.

“The speed of thought was there from Chelsea.

“Once they were in behind the midfield of Everton anything could have happened, it could have been five or six.”
