Chelsea midfielder Billy Gilmour described his full Premier League debut for Chelsea as a “dream come true” after helping the Blues hammer Everton 4-0 at Stamford Bridge on Sunday afternoon.
First half goals from Mason Mount and Pedro set Frank Lampard’s side on their way before they doubled their lead after the break with quick-fire goals from Willian and Olivier Giroud.
It was a superb showing from Lampard’s troops, who have enjoyed a solid week’s work, by beating Liverpool and Everton by an aggregate score of 6-0.
And after such fantastic debut against Liverpool in the FA Cup on Tuesday night, Lampard kept his faith in young midfielder Gilmour, who was handed his first Premier League start against the Toffees.
On how he found his first taste of Premier League football from the start of a match, Gilmour, who was named Man of the Match for the second game in succession, told Sky Sports: “It was amazing, a dream come true to make my full debut in the Premier League.
“But most of all getting the three points and carrying on winning, and hopefully we continue that moving forward.”
Prior to kick-off, Sky Sports pundit Roy Keane was eager to see how Gilmour would perform after setting such a high standard against Liverpool. But the 18-year-old rose to the challenge and delivered another impressive showing.
On how he found the challenge that Everton posed, Gilmour continued: “It was tough. Obviously the next game, today, was a tough game. Against Liverpool it was a good game, I played well.
“All you can do is go into the next game, play well, work hard and do you best for the team, and we came out on top so that is the most important thing for the team.”
After two superb showings at club level, some people are tipping the central midfielder to break into the Scotland squad for their upcoming UEFA Euro 2020 play-off semi-final against Israel later this month.
